NFL Super Bowl LIX Odds

The Kansas City Chiefs will seek their unprecedented third consecutive championship when they meet the Philadelphia Eagles for the second time in three years in Super Bowl 59 on Feb. 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Kansas City overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to win 38-35 on a field goal with eight seconds left in Super Bowl 57.

The Chiefs beat the Bills 32-29 in the AFC Championship game, while the Eagles dominated the Commanders 55-23 in the NFC title game. The disparity in scores didn't impact the Super Bowl odds, however, as it was the Chiefs who are 1.5-point favorites.

Philadelphia finished seventh in the league with a 27.2 ppg average during the regular season, but has turned that up a notch in the postseason, averaging a league-best 35 ppg in three games. Kansas City has scored at a 27.5 ppg clip in two playoff games. Philadelphia has held opponents to 18.3 points in the playoffs, as opposed to the Chiefs' 21.5 ppg average.

How to Read NFL Betting Odds

NFL betting odds available at top NFL betting sites like BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, bet365, Fanatics Sportsbook, DraftKings and FanDuel will be displayed in what is referred to as the “American” format. That means they will always begin with either a plus or a minus. For example, here were the opening odds for the 2024 NFL Kickoff game between the Ravens and the Chiefs:

  • Kansas City Chiefs to beat Baltimore Ravens (-155)
  • Baltimore Ravens to beat the Kansas City Chiefs (+130)

These odds showed the two-time Super Bowl-champion Chiefs as slight favorites over the Ravens in Kansas City. When NFL betting odds begin with a minus symbol, they show the amount you would need to wager to turn a $100 profit – in this case, $155. You don’t necessarily need to wager that amount, but this is the percentage used for any bet. For example, a $10 wager on the Chiefs would have returned $6.45 in profit – plus your $10 stake – if KC were to win.

If the NFL betting odds begin with a plus symbol, they show what you would win if you made a successful $100 wager. In the Kickoff game example above, a $100 wager on the Ravens would have won you $130 had Baltimore won the game. Again, wagering $100 is not a requirement as a $10 bet would return $23.00 – $13.00 in profit in addition to your $10 stake.

How NFL Odds Work

Each of the various NFL betting sites employ oddsmakers, who job it is do just that – make odds. Their odds are based on information, some similar and some proprietary, which is why you will sometimes see a slight variance between sites.

These NFL odds allow you to quickly decipher two key pieces of information: the profit you will make on a winning wager and the implied probability of a successful bet. In most cases, one team is determined to be the favorite and the other, the underdog. Here’s how to tell the difference:

👉 Favorites

The favorite is the team that oddsmakers have determined has the best chance of winning. The team with the minus in front of its odds is the favorite if the other team has a plus in front of its odds. Because the favorite is expected to win the game, you would need to wager more to win $100. The bigger the favorite, the smaller the profit. For example, the Cowboys were huge -1100 favorites over the Giants in Week 10 last season. As expected, Dallas dominated, but a $50 bet paid just $4.55.

👉 Underdogs

Betting on the underdog – the team that has a plus sign in front of its odds if the other team has a minus sign – offers the highest risk/return. The higher the number, the greater the risk – but, also, the greater potential reward. As expected, the Giants were blown out by the Cowboys as +700 underdogs in that Week 10 matchup last season. But had they somehow pulled off the upset, a $50 wager would have returned $350 in profit.

Sometimes, in very close games, you will see both teams with minus signs in front of their odds. In that case, the team with the highest number following in the minus would be the favorite. If both teams have the same odds, the game is considered a pick ‘em, and there is neither a favorite nor an underdog.

👉 NFL Opening Lines

NFL opening lines are the initial set of odds released on a game. The Week 1 opening lines were posted soon after the release of the 2024-25 schedule in May. Some sports betting sites – DraftKings, for example, is generally first at publishing opening lines for every game of the season, doing so right after the May release. Most, however, will do so once the previous week’s games are completed. Betting on opening lines can provide great value as it doesn’t take into account variables like suspensions., injuries or swings in public betting action that could cause odds to fluctuate towards the house.

👉 NFL Consensus Lines

The NFL consensus refers to the volume of wagers placed on either side of a bet. For example, you might find that 63% of bettors back the Chiefs to cover the spread against the Ravens in the Sept. 5 opener, while 37% back the Ravens to cover the spread. The line will often move if one side of a bet proves more popular than the other.

What Types of NFL Odds Can I Bet On?

You can literally find hundreds of betting options on a single NFL game, one reason the NFL is the No. 1 betting sport in the United States by a wide margin. These odds are standard, no matter if they are preseason odds, primetime-game odds such as Monday Night Football odds and Thursday Night Football odds, or postseason odds.

All of the online sportsbooks mentioned in this guide offer moneylines, spreads and totals on every game. These types of bets generally have a lower house edge, while wagers on things like props and parlays offer betters a higher risk/reward.

Most Popular NFL Bets

  • Point Spread: This is the most popular type of NFL bet, and it is the focus of most NFL picks . The sportsbooks give a points handicap to the team they believe to be superior, which creates a point spread. They then offer similar odds on either team covering that point spread. For example, you might find NFL odds in Week 1 of -110 on the Philadelphia Eagles covering at -1.5 points and at -110 on the Green Bay Packers covering at +1.5.
  • Total Points: The total points line is the second most popular market on offer at NFL betting apps. It requires you to predict the total number of points scored in a game. A sportsbook will set a line for each game, such as 44.5 points, and you then bet on “over” or “under” for points scored according to that line.
  • Over/Under Point Total: This is another way to describe the total points line. You can bet on the total points for an entire game, or for a quarter or a half. Sportsbooks also offer over/under lines on each team. It's important to remember that betting lines vary across online betting platforms, so be sure to check across multiple sportsbooks to find the best price for your targeted bet. The Over/Under on the Chiefs-Ravens NFL Kickoff Game on Sept. 5 is 46.5.
  • Moneyline: The moneyline is a simple prediction on which team will win an NFL game. The sportsbooks analyze the offensive and defensive strengths and weaknesses of each team, along with factors such as home advantage, injuries and head-to-heads, and they then release NFL games' odds on each team.
  • Straight-Up Winner: This is simply another way of referring to the moneyline. You do not need to focus on the winning margin or the number of points that will be scored. Moneyline bets require you to just pick which team will win straight up.
  • Parlays: NFL betting sites allow you to combine two or more picks on separate NFL games to create NFL parlays. Each pick, which is referred to as a leg, must win for the parlay to succeed. You can earn large profits by compiling successful parlays, as the profit compounds within the bet, with the winnings from each leg rolling over to the next. Additional bets include same-game parlays, teasers and round robins.
  • Prop Bets: A prop focuses on an event within an NFL game, a team stat or a player stat. For example, betting on events like a player to score a touchdown, the number of yards (over/under) a running back will rush for or the number of TD passes (over/under) a quarterback will throw are all referred to as NFL player props. Additional NFL prop bets can include the first team to 15 points, the highest scoring quarter, whether there will be a Pick 6, the result of the coin toss and so on.

🏈 Other Popular NFL Bet Types

Super Bowl Betting Odds

Super Bowl futures betting is among the most popular forms of wagering at nearly every online sportsbook. The Super Bowl odds on each team are released in the days following the previous year’s Super Bowl and are updated from that point until kickoff of the upcoming season’s big game.

These odds start with a favorite – typically the defending champion – and then grow longer as you go down the list, eventually arriving at the huge underdogs. The Chiefs are +500  favorites over the 49ers (+600) in Super Bowl 59 on a number of Super Bowl betting sites, followed by the Ravens (+1000) and Lions (+1200). The Patriots (+30000) are the biggest underdogs.

Many times, NFL bettors will take a preseason flyer on their favorite team in an often-fruitless betting venture. However, this type of wager can occasionally be extremely lucrative. For example, the St. Louis Rams won Super Bowl XXXIV after opening the season at +15000, meaning a $100 preseason bet would have resulted in $15K in profit.

Additional NFL Futures

Super Bowl futures are not the only kind of NFL futures bets that are available throughout the year on the top NFL sites. You can find NFL betting odds on each team to win its conference or division, to make the NFL playoffs or to miss the playoffs altogether. You can bet the over/under on how many wins each team will amass this season and who will have the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Player Awards

They release player betting markets in the NFL futures odds section, too, such as the NFL MVP odds, NFL Rookie of the Year odds and Coach of the Year odds. 2024 NFL MVP odds are already out and Patrick Mahomes the early favorite to win his third MVP award. These odds are also updated throughout the season. NFL Draft odds are available each year, too.

Live Betting

The best online sportsbooks offer NFL live odds on every single game. You can bet on markets such as the spread, moneyline, total and props while the game is ongoing. These NFL live odds will change according to the score and how well each team is playing, and you can bet in-play until the end of the game.

  • First-Half Lines: Sportsbooks release first-half lines before the game begins. They are updated in the live betting section as the game progresses.
  • Second-Half Lines: You can also bet on the second half. It means that, for the purposes of these bets, the score is 0-0 at the start of the second half. You can bet on which team will score the most points in the second half, the spread, totals and props.

NFL Odds FAQs

The Chiefs opened as 1.5-point favorites over the Eagles in the NFL odds for Super Bowl 59 and that number has held through nearly two weeks of hype. The moneyline has moved slightly toward Philadelphia, although the Chiefs are still -115 favorites over the Eagles (-105). The over/under is down a full point to 48.5.

NFL odds will begin with a plus or a minus sign. The team with the minus sign is the favorite and the team with the plus sign is the underdog. If the number starts with a minus, it indicates the amount you would have to wager to win $100. If it starts with a plus, it lists the amount you would win on a $100 wager.
NFL odds are probability-based numbers attached to a given wager, such as who will win a game. If the odds start with a minus sign, the following number signifies how much a bettor has to wager to profit $100. If they start with a plus, it signifies how much you will profit on a winning $100 bet.
You can certainly place parlay bets on NFL games at legal online sportsbooks in more than two dozen states. It simply requires you to add multiple picks to the betslip and combine them for a parlay. If you are looking for NFL lines, scores and odds, BetMGM and Caesars Sportsbook are great options.
NFL odds are based off of potential $100 wagers. If the odds start with a plus (+), the following number signifies how much you stand to profit from a winning $100 bet. In this case, a winning bet at +200 odds would return a profit $200.
